About the event

The 16th Federal Congress on National Urban Development Policy was framed by side events organised by selected hosts on the first day of the congress. The vhw e. V. played a substantial role in shaping the supporting programme with its well-attended event ‘Key concept of resilience: designing neighbourhoods, cities and rural areas with a view to the future’ on a topical issue. After a welcome by Prof. Dr. Jürgen Aring (Chairman of vhw e. V.), Prof. Dr. Christian Kuhlicke (Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research - UFZ) presented concepts and challenges of urban resilience in his keynote speech and made it clear that this is a cross-cutting task. The topic block ‘Building resilience locally – impetus for neighbourhoods, cities and rural areas’ was introduced by PD Dr Olaf Schnur and Dr Lars Wiesemann, who focused on the neighbourhood level in their presentation ‘Resilient neighbourhoods: community-oriented neighbourhood facilities as crisis-relevant infrastructures’ and…
