To protect the population and the environment from extreme events such as overheating or heavy rainfall and to mitigate further consequences, climate adaptation in cities and municipalities is crucial, alongside climate protection. Municipalities are key players in this process.

Since July 2024, municipalities have been obligated to implement climate adaptation concepts under the new Federal Climate Adaptation Act, thus being called upon to take active steps. Climate resilience is a very comprehensive and complex field. This is not only because a wide variety of disciplines are affected, but also, and perhaps more importantly, because numerous stakeholders, such as the public, initiatives and associations, policymakers, and the press, are involved in the process. Meeting these diverse tasks and expectations while simultaneously maintaining a clear focus on strategy implementation is often a particular challenge.
